I removed the OS X hard drive, started up from the LIVE Ubuntu 10.04 disk.
Then I installed 10.04 selecting-use entire drive, format and partition
automatically. Then I selected to update to 12.04. After installation
and restart, I got a Yaboot prompt with a Command Line dbus-launch error.
--close-stderr exited with non-zero exit status 1: Autolaunch error: X11
initialization failed.\nudev[302]: specified group 'colord' unknown
The disk drive for / is not ready yet or not present.
Continue to wait, or Press S to skip mounting or M for manual
recovery then blinking cursor.
I started up with LIVE 10.04 disk, looked at drive contents and
partitions. All were appropriate except that there was no label for
root partition.
I named it 'root' and restarted the 12.04 installation. No different.
Apparently I was wrong about the video driver being the problem. But
12.04 Live would not start up until I removed the OS X hard drive.
The G5 had been dual booting between Ubuntu and OS X using separate drives.
Ideas Please
