	Hi;

	You should just be able to specify or select the dvd device
(eg. /dev/sr0) If you specify a path, it should be to the directory
that *contains* the VIDEO_TS dir. (though some might be smart enough
to understand both dirs)
	I dont have VLC installed but I usually use xine for this
stuff. Examples:

play a DVD in the physical drive:
Just invoke xine and click on the 'dvd' tab (make sure you have
configured it to know what device that corresponds to in setup)

play an iso image:
xine dvd:///path/to/name-of-movie.iso

play a copy of a DVD, or a mounted DVD:
xine dvd:///path/to/mountpoint-or-directory/
