Damn I remember playing with Window Maker!

Also enlightenment, with stacked workspaces, always seemed ahead of it's time! Back in the early 'noughts at least.

I keep keep hearing of people using i3 as a window manager on top of MATE, but I've never gotten it to work reliably.
