[WLUG] Does Hard Drive's Firmware need to be transfered?

What are these "SATA test cables"? Also, I would recommend always having
the laptop plugged in when installing an OS, especially if the battery is 5
yrs old. Try powering it up without the hard drive and see if you still
hear ticking.  It might be a fan. You might also try the hard drives in
another system to see if they can be accessed.
