Hello John

Yes the BIOS is set to boot from the USB on the HP G60t-200 lab top  it had 10.04 Ubuntu.

The USB KEY was created on the Dell Ispiron 530 that was reciently updated with Ubuntu 12.04.

I do not have a windows machine.  I had so much trouble with microsoft on the HP lap top and the Dell came with Ubuntu.

I want a USB flash stick to do an install on the HP lap top.  Their are so many problems with the lap top an install is my biggest hope.

Thank you for the questions as I am not real failure with computers.

Gordon

I'm going to ask some maybe stupid questions and make some stupid assumptions but here goes:

Is your BIOS set to run from a USB key?

When you made the USB key, what did you look at it on?  Your windows machine or on Ubuntu?

The  wubi.exe file is your Windows installer and won't open on Ubuntu--it looks like the Ubuntu machine is interpreting it as a possible zip file or unknown file.  If you put your USB key into a Windows machine to install Ubuntu, what happens?

BTW, this is not a "start-up" USB key, like a live distro on a stick where you can just start up Ubuntu on any computer and then turn if off and it is a Windows computer again.    wubi.exe is an installer program (see:  http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/windows-installer)   You could run an .iso with a VM (forgive me if I have the term wrong but I did this a few years ago).  Do you want http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ so that you can have a live Ubuntu distro on a stick?  That won't use wubi.exe but will maybe do what you want.

Hope this is helpful.

Best,

John

In which method was the live USB created? Also, which ISO did you use (regular ubuntu or another flavor)?
