Robert is saying what I've been wanting to say for the past 20 years.
Consulting firms continue to temp us with jobs that pretend to promise
rewarding careers but are in fact illusions. They are really looking for
semi-skilled workers who will continue to patch poorly-written legacy code
in order to keep the wheels of commerce turning. Once you are on-boarded
with your Windows laptop and company e-mail account, having an opinion is
will be viewed by your peers and managers as an occupational hazard.
Mediocrity will be rewarded and excellence will be punished. Innovation
will be out of the question. The people who will survive in such positions
are there because they conceded their autonomy and learned to suppress
their natural creativity.

No disrespect intended to John. I truly wish him success in his new
position, and hope that his situation will be an exception.
